Points scale with how many lines you clear at once. Set up placements that complete a row and a column on the same move to bank a combo instead of two separate clears.

Leave room for big pieces

The 3x3 square and the long 1x5 bar are the hardest pieces to place. Always keep at least one open 3x3 region and one clear lane so a large piece never forces a dead end.
